Experiencing Wikis

I loved the idea of exchanging recipes using a wiki. This is much easier than trying to copy recipes or sending an email to everyone. Also, we can find the recipe just by going back to the wiki. It also helps us learn about each other. Just by seeing recipes that people like, it helps to know something about them. I hope we keep this wiki going and post new recipes when we have new ones that are good.

So, what is your impression of wikis? I really liked the experience. I think it will be very useful.

Why do you think librarians do not recommend using Wikipedia as a research resource? Anyone can edit a wiki so in widipedia, people can make up things and pretend it is authentic.

Did you find a delicious recipe? I think so. Lanee’s Cherry Fluff Stuff sounds really good and I am happy to have the corn casserole from Kay.

Bookmarks and tags

So, what is your impression about social bookmarking? I still don’t understand all about this feature and how it can help me. It would be useful to be able to find my favorite sites from anywhere I happen to be instead of just having my bookmarks on one PC.

Do you think you will continue to use traditional browser bookmarks or make the switch? I will probably use both.

Describe how you would incorporate this tool in your personal or professional life. I imagine I would use this for personal use more than professional. My professional bookmarks will still be on my PC at work. Personal bookmarks will be on delicious so I can get to them from any computer.

Just for fun I subscribed to two feeds about Julia Roberts. I thought that would be a good way for me to learn how this all works. There is bound to be a lot of news about Julia!! My kids think I am funny because I talk about her as if she was my friend or something. When I talk about Julia, they know who I mean.

RSS Feeds

How can libraries utilize RSS feeds to improve library services? I love the idea of having the new books on an RSS feed. I am going to look into that one and, Lanee, we don’t have to worry about the new books list taking up space on the website!

How would implementing RSS feeds on your personal site improve communication with your readers? I could be up to date on things and we would have a point of discussion.

This has been an extremely busy day in the library. I thought that not many people would come in today because of the rain, but I guess it has had the opposite effect. I have helped many students today and that has kept me very busy. I am excited to learn how to work this blog.

Library uses for Blogs

A blog would be a great place to discuss new books in the library. Several times I have wanted to make a statement about one of our new books in my frequent email to the UAM campus but haven’t done so. I have kept the emails the same. On a blog, I could discuss who might want to use the books we have recently purchased, or even put reviews about the new books on the blog.
